Ballard has historic night at Benton County Speedway
Nathan Ballard won for the 49th time in his career on the Benton County Speedway oval in IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock action Sunday night. The victory moved him to the top of the track's all-time wins list for the division.Nathan Ballard's march to the top is now complete.The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver made history Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The Benton County Bullring Lil Racer Car Club will be getting back to our normal ways this Sunday after taking a back seat to the Urbana 5 Group, who had goody bags and a bicycle giveaway last Sunday night. We did begin our "Kids Coloring for Trophies!" promotion again last Sunday as some recent trophy donations have allowed us to start handing them back out to kids who take the time to color us a picture, bring the picture to us at the clubhouse, and exchange it for the trophy of their choosing.

VINTON -- Going back a year, former Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings' placekicker Jesse Pladsen was not thinking about anything beyond the 2020 season. But catching up the present, he has higher sights in mind.In a few weeks, Pladsen will be on his way to Indianola to compete for a spot at the varsity kicker for the Simpson College football team. Seventy eight Lil Racers signed in at the Lil Racer Clubhouse Sunday night and took part in our Father's Day Prize Giveaway. All club members got free chances to try and win one of 16 different prizes for their dads. Many happy kids and dads walked away with some thoughtful gifts. The first 100 kids received free hot dogs at the concession stand as well as free ice cream cones to the first 50.
Cornell collects Sprint Invaders checkers, Tharp goes back-to-back at Speedway
An impressive 120 race teams signed in to compete in the first weekly points races to be held on the Fourth of July in 22 years at Benton County Speedway.Jonathan Cornell made the holiday a memorable one by being victorious in the first-ever visit by the Sprint Invaders at The Bullring.Chris Martin led the 23-car field to green and assumed command from his pole position start.
Festive July 4 at Benton County Speedway to feature Sprints, raffle, fireworks
With both attempts at holding the Benton County Fair races washed out, the focus now shifts to Sunday, July 4 at Benton County Speedway.And it's going to be big.As part of "A Celebration at The Bullring" on the Independence Day holiday, the speedway will host weekly racing in all five divisions, in addition to special appearances by the Sprint Invaders and the Midwest Micro Sprints, plus the Lil' Racer Car Club benefit raffle.
