Vikings split a pair in WaMaC West action

Tuesday, the Vikings shook off some early doldrums to blast South Tama, 58-23, but Thursday was a different story as the Vikes dropped a 71-35 decision to WaMaC West leader Center Point-Urbana.

Stormin' Vikings sink Raiders on Senior Night

   By Rob Levis, Head Swimming Coach    The Vinton-Shellsburg Stormin' Viking swimmers closed out their home season Monday with a dual meet win over Williamsburg Our guys swam really well,  On the evening we had 41 new personal best times led by Isaac Allsup and Bradyn Schlief with four each.  Elias Colsch, Logan Zearley and Jared Jacobs each had three new personal best times.

Not where this Grandma wants to be on a bitterly cold night.  But we have a great bunch of kids that love wrestling.Coach Neve runs them through drills and techniques over and over again.  There is NO slacking here; you better be prepared to come and learn.  I was amazed at all the parents that help out Coach Neve.

OT heartbreaker for Vikings, fall to CCA, 70-62

It was another heartbreaker for Coach Joe Johnson's Vinton-Shellsburg boys' basketball team Tuesday, as for the second night in a row the Vikings dropped an overtime toughie, falling this time to Clear Creek-Amana, 70-62 in a game that was truly a tale of two halves.V-S led 18-7 after one quarter and 33-16 at the half, but Clippers stormed back, cutting the margin to three after three at 41-38 before the contest went into OT tied at 55.

Washington and Western Dubuque at the Lancer Lane Photo courtesy of Angie BeckerVarsity BoysThis team is on fire.  They are working really well together as they continue their successes.  They are still undefeated and shot a great 3152.  They were led by junior, Ayden Bearbower shooting a phenomenal 298 and a 504 series.  Ayden has worked hard to get to where he is as he continues to be a strong force on the lanes.

Vikettes blast Indee, 50-34

Vinton Vikettes bring a victory on the basketball court The winning streak moved to four Monday night as Coach Rich Haisman's Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes rolled past Independence, 50-34 in a WaMaC West showdown at the Garrison Fieldhouse.After a tight first eight minutes, the Vikettes (7-4 overall and 4-0 in the West) rolled to a 32-18 lead at intermission and 43-24 going into the final eight minutes.Kayla Griffith paced the Vikettes with 14, with Lucy Howes-Vonstein adding 13 and Taryn Sutton 10 to give V-S three in double figures.

Vikings fall to Raiders, 44-40

"It was a weird game...there was no flow to it."Those were the words of Vinton-Shellsburg boys' basketball coach Joe Johnson after his Vikings dropped a 44-40 decision to Williamsburg Tuesday night at the Garrison Fieldhouse.The Vikes trailed 11-9 after one period and were within one in the last minute of the half, but a pair of Raider treys upped the margin to eight at intermission, 25-17.

Vikings come back to stop STC, 41-33

Sam Griffith and CJ Rickels combined for 30 points to help lead the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings to a 41-33 WaMaC conference road win at South Tama Friday night.After an ice cold first half that saw the two teams combine for a total of six point in the second quarter, Coach Joe Johnson’s Vikings overcame a 19-14 deficit to roll to the win.

Vikettes blast STC, 61-25

    The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes got the new decade off to a great start Friday night, with a 61-25 rout of South Tama at the Garrison Fieldhouse.    Coach Rich Haisman's Vikettes (5-4 overall, 4-4 in the WaMaC)had things their own way all night against the Trojans, leading 20-4 after one and 38-17 at intermission.

Vikettes close the decade beating Benton, 53-42

“We really wanted this one,” said Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ basketball coach Rich Haisman. “You always want that last win…and that was the last win, in the last game of DECADE!”The first-year Vikette coach nailed it. Behind 17 points from Lucy Howes-Vonstein, 11 from Taryn Sutton and a 10-point breakout performance from freshman Alyssa Griffith, V-S downed arch-rival Benton Community, 53-42 Friday night at Garrison Fieldhouse.
