Vikettes roll in cage opener, 46-30
By JEFF HOLMESVINTON -- First-year head coach Rich Haisman got a Thanksgiving treat from his Vinton-Shellsburg girls' basketball team Tuesday night.The Vikette presented their new coach with a season-opening 46-30 WaMaC Conference victory over West Delaware before big crowd in the Garrison FIeldhouse. V-S trailed once in the game, 2-0, before scoring 11 straight and putting the game away early.
Vikings blast Knights, 57-38
VINTON — CJ Rickels's 22 points coupled with a tenacious defense by the home team led the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings to a 57-38 victory over the Union Knights Thursday night in the Garrison Fieldhouse.Coach Joe Johnson’s Vikings (1-1) led 17-8 after one period, then blew the game open in the second quarter to take a 34-15 into the locker room at the half.
Howes-Vonstein, Sutton pace Vikettes past Union, 41-28
VINTON — The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes blew open a tight game in the first half to pull away and down Union, 41-28 in a non-conference battle Thursday night at the Garrison Fieldhouse.The Vikettes (2-1 overall) were only up 6-5 after one period and 13-12 at intermission, but from then it was not the Knights’ night. Lucy Howes-Vonstein drilled home 17 points and Taryn Sutton added 11 more to pace the Vikettes.

MAQUOKETA — A cold night of shooting is never good in basketball, but it’s even worse when your opponent is hot.Coach Joe Johnson’s Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings dropped their season opener Tuesday, falling 62-51 to Maquoketa on the (long) road. The Vikings led the game most of the first half and took a 28-24 lead into the locker room at intermission.

VINTON -- There really is no such thing in sports as a moral victory, but in a lot of ways this loss might have been as close as you can get.The short-handed Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes (1-1) charged back from a deep hole late in the fourth quarter, only to have the Maquoketa Cardinals manage to hold them off for a 54-47 WaMaC Conference win Tuesday night at the Garrison Fieldhouse.

V-S Students help compose Cedar Rapids HS Hockey Team
The Cedar Rapids High School Hockey team includes three Vinton-Shellsburg students, Brayden Almquist, Hayden Rast, and Sawyer Rast.The team is comprised of hockey players who attend many schools in the area - from Solon to Alburnett to V-S and Mt Vernon.The team will compete in some important games this weekend (two varsity games, two JV games) and is requesting game attendees bring donations of personal care items intended for distribution at Waypoint Services in Cedar Rapids.
2019 Academic All State Volleyball
The LHSAA is proud to announce the names of the student-athletes that were selected to the 2019-20 LHSAA All Academic Volleyball Composite Team. In order to be selected to the Academic All-State team, the student had to be a senior, played the sport for two years, and achieved a six-semester cumulative grade point average based on a 4.0 scale, a minimum score of 27 on the ACT and a 3.
