2019 Academic All State Volleyball

The LHSAA is proud to announce the names of the student-athletes that were selected to the 2019-20 LHSAA All Academic Volleyball Composite Team.  In order to be selected to the Academic All-State team, the student had to be a senior, played the sport for two years, and achieved a six-semester cumulative grade point average based on a 4.

Vikettes win over the Plainsmen in Nets for Vets event

Our Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes hosted the Hall of Pride event attended by the Belle Plaine girls basketball team, the Plainsmen in a scrimmage. The game honored the area Benton County Veterans through the annual Nets for Vets Fundraiser.

Sole Sisters to wrap up the fall with Annual Run

Sole Sisters Mission Statement:I am a confident, positive role model, who makes healthy decisions for myself which makes me feel empowered! Sole Sisters, a group of 5th grade girls that meets weekly at the middle school to help the girls transition from elementary to middle school will be holding their Sole Sisters Run, the final run for the fall of 2019.

VSU District top 8% of Female Swimmers in Iowa

VSU had a fantastic day in the pool at LinnMar Aquatic Center for their district swim meet. Swimming isn't divided into classes like other sports - so VSU was up against massive competition from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, LinnMar, Iowa City High, and Iowa City West with some smaller districts like Williamsburg, Tipton and Keokuk.

There were a lot of smiles on a rainy Friday at Vinton-Shellsburg High School as a pair of Vikette soccer players put their futures on paper. Seniors Olivia Erhardt and Taryn Sutton made it official as they signed their letters of intent to play for the RedTails of Hawkeye Community College before a room full of family teammates and fans.

VIKINGS FALL IN FINALE TO BENTON, 34-31

A season of heartbreakers ended with probably the biggest one Friday night for the Vinton-Shellsburg Viking football team with a 34-31 loss to Benton Community at Karr Athletic Complex.

Williamsburg Dual Swim Meet 10/24

With the Vinton pool still down, Williamsburg graciously offered to host the meet instead of canceling it so VSU seniors Chelsee Tharp and Lauren Upmeyer could still have their Senior Night.

VIKETTES HEAD INTO WAMAC BRACKET PLAY

The Vinton-Shellsburg volleyball team will play Thursday in the first round of bracket play in the WaMaC Conference tournament in Marion.The Vikettes (13-21 on the season) will face off with South Tama in 4 p.

Girls Swim at Decorah

VSU knew this was going to be a challenging night: Decorah is a very talented, very big team. With the Iowa Braille School pool still being down, VSU has been traveling to Waterloo West High School for practices - and even that has only happened 2 nights each week for the past 2 weeks.

VIKINGS FALL TO WEST MARSHALL, 27-7

On the opening kick-off off Friday night’s District 7 football match-up between Vinton-Shellsburg and West Marshall, Viking Jose Wilson fielded the ball, broke through an initial defensive, juked to the right and proceed down the far sideline, 97 yards for a touchdown…only to have it called back for a phantom block-in-the-back call.
