Bailey Weeks makes the Iowa State National High School rodeo team Bailey Weeks, a 10th Grade student at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, has earned a position on the Iowa State National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Lincoln, Nebraska, July 19-25 to compete at the 72nd annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFT) in the Cutting Horse competition.Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian Provinces, Australia and Mexico, the NHSFR is the world's largest rodeo.

Benton County Speedway Will Hold Open Practice Sunday, May 31

Vinton, Iowa: May 31st will be an open practice session for all racers from 4:00 pm to 7 pm. Pit gates will open at 3 pm at the “Bullring” located on the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton.The point racing season will open on June 7th with fans being allowed to attend the races. The racing action will get underway on June 7th with warm ups slated to take to the track at 4:30 pm with racing to follow at 5 pm.

Vinton Parks and Recreation Department Opens Pool For 2020 Season

The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department along with Staff voted Tuesday night to open the Vinton Community Pool for the 2020 season.The pool season will begin on Monday, June 15, 2020. There will be some restrictions that are in place at the beginning of the pool season. The first three weeks will heavily be geared toward lessons and private swim instruction.

Benton County Speedway Opens This Sunday, May 24

The long-awaited season opener at the Benton County Speedway, “The Bullring”, will be held this Sunday, May 24th. The season has been delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, still under Governor Reynolds restrictions, the racing season can begin but the grandstands will remain closed.The Dripps family will begin their first season as promoters of the “Bullring” and have come up with a very unique experience for the race fans.

By IHSAAIowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced Wednesday that summer athletic seasons may be conducted for high school baseball and softball following a two-month activities suspension due to COVID-19.The announcement approved the reopening of school facilities and the start of practices for Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association sanctioned summer sports starting on Monday, June 1.
