Sunoco Race Fuels announced that they will continue their support of two IMCA divisions and one special series through 2021. Manufacturer of the Official Fuel of IMCA, Sunoco will continue as title sponsor of both the IMCA Stock Car and IMCA Hobby Stock divisions. Sunuco will continue to give cash awards to drivers maintaining perfect attendance in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models.

Vinton-Shellsburg senior Libbie Timmerman made it official as she signed her letter of intent with Hawekeye Community College. Alongside Libbie for the signing, were her parents, Kevin and Jamie. Libbie plans to go into nursing, and will use the scholarship that she received from Hawkeye Community College to meet her goal. Libbie used her training as a CNA to work at Virginia Gay Hospital.

Our 2018 girls golf team had a strong season. We finished with a record of 42-22 and we had an individual State qualifier. Our team also finished a strong academic year and was awarded an Excellence in Academic Achievement by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association. This team achieved a G.P.A. of 3.779. An award is presented to teams who achieve a 3.

The VS wrestling team sent several JV wrestlers to the CPU JV Invitational meet. Several VS wrestlers medaled, including Damon Swenson, who was first in Div. 5. On Wednesday, Union Knights Coach Joe Hadachek resigned. After 12 years as head football coach at Union High School, Joe described his time coaching as "One great ride." Before becoming coach, he had worked with the youth program, starting that with Coach Don Sallee in 2003,  building the program that continues today. He took a minute to thank the fans both for their support as well as for coming to the games.

"This is a rebuilding year for the girls team. We lost 5 or the 6 varsity members from last year yet we have several girls that are stepping up their games to contribute the this team.  The VS boys team has been gaining strength over the last few rebuilding years.  We have so much talent which makes a coaches job difficult to pick the 6 best at any given moment" said coach Amber Pattee.

The Jones Brothers Tournament is a tournament to honor two Iowa State Wrestlers, Ron and Don. The tournament began in Iowa Falls-Alden high school wrestling tournament and debuted in 2008. For years Don coached the Iowa Falls middle school team and Ron went 15 seasons as head coach of the Iowa Falls High School wrestling program. Ron was a member of Iowa State's 1965 NCAA team title squad,and a two-time All-American at 130 pounds.
