COVID, Computers, Connections and Council

"It's time to watch the City Council in session," the reminder on my phone said. "Perfect!""Your connection is unstable," my computer said, over, and over. Then Zoom appeared and disappeared. However, from the bits and pieces that I COULD hear and see, from my connection on satellite, it sounded like the City Council had indeed been enjoying that Christmas Eggnog.

May all your Christmases be...well, better than 2020

I have to admit, after this year, I think I feel a bit more Grinch-ish than normal. I am so tired of hearing, mask up, socially distance or how I could kill Grandma before she gets run over by a reindeer if I don't wear a mask! (Now I'm not debating the should or shouldn'ts of any of that, but seriously, we're all weary)However, NOW is the time to make the day of those that serve us year around a bit brighter.

7 Years, and one day

I was reminded by relatives via Facebook that I'd lost my dad 7 years ago, yesterday. But really, I'd lost him about 5 or 6 years before when he went into a care center. He was a man's man. Not a wuss, and not afraid of anything, except blood. At the sight of blood, well, he'd hit the floor. The very idea makes me chuckle. My dad passing out? No way!He stood at 6 foot, had the bluest eyes, and black hair.

Letter to the Editor: Thank you

To the Editor, The Family of Evelyn Bland sincerely thanks our dear family and friends for the kind words and the expressions of sympathy and comfort after the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother.  She will forever be in our hearts.

What day is it again?

COVID messes with everything. Especially the calendar. I needed to get my car fixed as well as cover a photo op on the same day. I looked at my calendar, got the car ready, told the mechanic where it would be for pick up and prepared for the rest of my day. I had to get the bills ready to deliver this week, something I don't normally do anymore because of time.

Letter to the Editor: The Electoral College

The debate has started again as to whether the US Constitution should be amended in order to change the presidential election process.  Some promote eliminating the Electoral College in favor of a direct popular vote for president while others believe the Electoral College should remainunchanged.  Just as compromise solved the initial problems of the framers so it is that compromise can solve this problem.

Letter to the Editor: Heroes Among Us

Heroes Among UsSeveral months ago I wrote a public pulse about the “angels among us” who work in nursing homes and care centers.  I want to recognize another group of selfless people who are always willing to help.  When the funeral home or the police department or the ambulance service need extra equipment, muscle or extra hands, who you gonna call?  Not ghost busters.

Tolochko and Margo Tie the Knot

Face it. We're living in a world that is sometimes just crazy. I know, I know, it's not politically correct to say that something someone does, that you wouldn't do is crazy, but face it. There are just crazy people out there. Let's talk about Tolochko. He is a bodybuilder from Kazakhstan. I don't know a lot about Kazakhstan, nor do I really care to.

It's not news, but you can't get all you can eat chitterlings in Texas

If you've never been to Texas let me tell you a bit about H E B grocery stores. They are THE grocery store in Texas. Like everything they are huge. I'd guess they are probably the size of a Sam's Club, with mostly groceries in them. Like everywhere else, the stores are limiting disinfectants, miscelleaneous cleaning supplies, toilet paper and other things.
