Election workers rank right up there next to the voters

Our absentee ballot counters, taking a well deserved break around supper time. Having worked with the auditor's office a few times to facilitate elections, I know this job is a long hard day of mostly sitting. It sounds simple and for the most part, it is. Unless you were the folks that had to open absentee ballots and run those this year, that is a LOT more work. Having done this job I never even question if our county is a safe place to vote.

The winning is in the Party

Just a portion of the voters in Vinton on Tuesday night, patiently waiting to vote Usually by the end of the day, I'm in my jammies and settled in for a long night of work. It wasn't any different on Tuesday. I ventured out to check on a couple of things that I needed to look at and I swung by the skate center. The lot was packed full of cars, which made me smile. There was a line past the door. That made me smile. I walked in to hear everyone visiting and laughing together.

Letter to the Editor: Free & Fair vs. Trump Defeat

Dear Editor, Which is more important – Free and Fair or Trump’s defeat? This popped into my head this morning.  Which is more important on Tuesday – that the election is held in a free in fair fashion following all federal and state laws to the letter??? Or is Trump so objectionable that any and all means should be used for his defeat - federal and state laws be damned! Just curious what all your thoughts are.

Letter to the Editor: Sharing a note from Mrs. Trump

Dear Editor: This is a side of the former president we do not see one his closest has and views him as a kind, loving, caring and empathetic man to his family and our Nation. Thus the full text of the letter below: "Melania TrumpJuly 14, 2024 I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans. We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one.

Well, Fred the government has just gone Pea"nuts"

I believe there is a topic that we can all agree on. That is the topic of saving harmless little animals. The nation is rallying around a cute little rescued pair of animals. Well, they are rallying around the couple who owned Fred the raccoon and a squirrel named Peanut. Peanut was rescued at five weeks old when his mother was hit by a car seven years ago.

Letter to the Editor: Something to ponder

Dear Editor, Here's something to ponder. In June, Trump led Biden in Iowa by 50%-32%, September, Harris had closed the gap to 47% Trump-43% Harris. The last Iowa poll now has Harris leading Trump by 47% to 43%. This is not a junk poll but the highly regarded Selzer poll. The momentum has shifted. Take a look. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/iowa-poll/2024/11/02/iowa-poll-kamala-harris-leads-donald-trump-2024-presidential-race/75354033007/Iowa Poll: Kamala Harris leapfrogs Donald Trump to take lead near Election Day.

Letter to the Editor: One last match before Tuesday

Dear Editor, What can we expect with a Democrat Party win???? Fully open borders . . . an illegal migrant raped a 5-year-old on Long Island yesterday . . . expect more of this and much, much more. Higher prices . . . everything starts with low-cost energy.  Cheap fuel to plant, harvest, transport, process, and deliver goods to our grocery stores, hardware stores, clothing stores, furniture stores.

Letter to the Editor: Had enough yet? Number 3

Dear Editor,Had enough yet?Damn straight, I’ve had enough of the slander, enough of the intimidation, enough misdirection, falsehoods, downright lies and the insults to integrity, character, and honesty.  As well as uncontrolled inflation, open borders, MS-13, Venezuelan sponsored gang - Tren de Aragua, Fentanyl overdose deaths,  the many murders attributed to illegal ALIENS!! I’ve had enough of Obama, Hillary, and Harris calling me “a bitter clinger to my guns and bible”, a basket of deplorables –irreconcilables”, and now I’m a NAZI.
