It started with the lawnmower giving out. Do we go out and buy another lawnmower or buy a tractor? If a lawnmower had won, this story wouldn't be here. But the couple decided a tractor would help them move along what had just been a hobby up until then. The tractor came with a bucket as well as a post-hole digger, both needed for this hobby.Vinton now has something that has never been done here before.

Fareway ends print ads in Publications Statewide

Fareway ads will now be found only online and in your local store. Fareway, which is headquartered in Boone, informed newspapers across the state last week that it no longer will publish its weekly specials in the newspaper. You can pick up a regular print ad, in the store, but it will no longer be delivered to your home.The decision made was a corporate one affecting publications statewide, Fareway vice president of marketing and sales Jeff Stearns told Vinton Today that the ads will continue to run from Wednesday through Tuesday.

As the anniversary nears of the devastating derecho that hit Iowa on August 10, the Iowa Insurance Division continues to hear that work is still underway and there is still more to do. Some Iowans are waiting for work on their homes to be finished while others have suggested that materials shortages and availability of contractors are the hurdles to the completion of repairs.

Garrison's Emergency Services building 10 years ago was completely flattened Sunday marked the 10th anniversary of the straight-line winds that ripped through the area on July 11, 2011. The National Weather Service said that the area was subject to 138 miles per hour winds for nearly 30 minutes.
