John Russell Betterton, Age 81, of Jesup, IA passed away at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A service will be held at a later date.John was born on August 6, 1943, in Knoxville, IA. He was the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Clarke) Betterton. On May 3, 1964, John married the love of his life, Pat Neighbor, in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Penny Lindsey, 65, passed away at her residence on Monday, October 28, 2024. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home with Chaplain Brian Reeves officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Alan Lee Buseman
Alan Lee Buseman, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at his home in Vinton. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November, 8th at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton. Alan was born on July 15, 1947, in Canistota, South Dakota, the son of John and Velma (Plucker) Buseman. He gave his life to Christ when he was 5 years old, and renewed that commitment when he was in college.

Dennis Dayle VanDeVenter, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Harmony Cedar Rapids A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Thursday, November, 7, 2024 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton (212 E. 6th Street). Graveside services will be held at Maplewood Cemetery at 3:30 PM following the celebration of life with full military honors.

Lynn A. Arthur, 89, formerly of Mt. Auburn, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. No services will be held at this time. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Lynn and his family.Lynn was born March 14, 1935, in La Porte City, the son of Russell and Lucille (Kohler) Arthur. He attended school in La Porte City, graduating in 1953.

Gail Ann Jones, 60, of Waterloo, IA passed away 0ctober 31, 2024 at Ravenwood Specialty Care, Waterloo, IA.Gail was born on February 14, 1964 in Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Elaine (Morrison) Vineyard. She graduated from South Tama High School. Gail lived in group homes from Vinton to Waterloo. She loved to paint by number and do word searches. Gail enjoyed movies, eating out and watching television.

David J. Martin, 53, of Vinton was called to rest at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of David’s life will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Phillips Funeral Home (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home at 2:30 PM by U.
Jeffrey Joseph Young
Jeffrey Joseph Young went to heaven at 2:50 A.M. on Friday, October 18th, after battling cancer since September of 2020.Jeff was born to Thomas Merle Young and Helen Louise Sandquist-Young. He had two siblings, brother Daniel Young, and sister Cynthia Young-Klein. As a child, Jeff enjoyed playing with the neighborhood children, riding bikes, and doing what little boys like to do.
Frances “Frannie” Lorraine Schulte
Frances “Frannie” Lorraine Schulte, 91, of Amana, IA passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024 at Colonial Manor, Amana, IA.Frances was born Sept. 17, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was raised there, the youngest of the “Frederick” girl’s, belonging to Sadie and James. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School where she graduated with the honor of never having missed a day of school.

Kenneth “Kenny” Laberto Brown, 81, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away October 24, 2024, at Heritage Specialty Care, Cedar Rapids, IA.Kenny was born May 21, 1943, to Orie and Emma (Hernik) Brown in Belle Plaine, IA. Growing up in Irving he attended Irving school until 9th grade and moved to rural Chelsea during high school. Kenny graduated from Belle Plaine High School, class of 1961.
