Knights to begin 2016 football season vs. Marion
Union is now in Class 2A, District 4, along with Dysersville Beckman, Western Dubuque (Cascade), Waterloo Columbus, Monticello, North Fayette Valley and Oelwein.
The Knights' schedule is:

Vikings begin season vs CPU; will play Benton Week 9
The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings will begin their first of two seasons in Class 3A, District 3 football, on Aug. 26 with a renewed rivalry game with Center Point-Urbana. It's been several years since the Vikings and Stormin' Pointers have competed.
The Vikings will also end their season the next two years with the rivalry game that for years has kicked off VS Football: Benton Community.
Center Point-Urbana begins 2016 football season at VS
Center Point-Urbana moves up to Class 3A in football this year, and will face teams from eastern Iowa as a member of Class 3A, District 4
Also in District 4 are: Davenport Assumption, Central DeWitt, Clear Creek-Amana, Maquoketa, Marion, Dubuque Wahlert and West Delaware.

Benton Bobcat football schedule
Like Vinton-Shellsburg, Benton Community begins the first of two seasons in Class 3A, District 3 football.
District 3 also includes Charles City, Decorah, Independence, South Tama, Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Rapids Xavier.
The Bobcats will play the following schedule:

VPRD to host Glow Ball Golf Tournament Saturday, August 13th
The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is once again hosting a Glow Ball Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 13th at the Vinton Country Club. This will be a two-person best shot 9-hole event that will begin at dark (approximately 9 PM). The cost is $40 per team and includes use of glow golf balls, light sticks, glow necklaces and a chance to win prizes.
