Bullring opener set for Sunday

With the annual season-opening Frostbuster special in the books, the weekly points opener is next on the schedule at the Benton County Speedway Bullring this Sunday, April 18.Five IMCA sanctioned divisions are [st] to do weekly battle on the Bullring throughout the 2021 season, including the 96.5 KISS Country Modifieds, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto, Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Kwik Star and Mach-1 Sport Compacts presented by Auto Crafters.

By SAGE HOLMESVinton Today SportswriterVINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity soccer team took on the West Delaware Hawks at the Karr Athletic Complex on April 6.  Seniors David Lapan-Islas and CJ Rickels had three goals each en route to a 14-0 win in one half over West Delaware.  The Vikings will return to the Karr Athletic Complex on Friday, April 9 to take on Independence at 5:30 PM.

V-S Girls Track Team Places 3rd, while JV brings home 2nd Place win

At the Jesup Girls' Track Meet, the Vinton-Shellsburg Girls competed in several competitions. With the Vinton-Shellsburg Girls' Track Team in the Class A Division, the girls brought home a 3rd Place win behind Dike-New Hartford and Denver. In 1st place, Dike-New Hartford scored 150.50 while Denver came in 2nd with 93.00. Vinton-Shellsburg girls' team came home with a score of 89.

Patten places 1st in Stock Division at 2nd Annual Keys Peak Uphill Truck Drag

Patten daily driver pickup used when he raced in the Uphill Truck Drag Race last month in Wisconsin Randy Patten of Vinton, came in first in the Stock Division of the 2nd Annual Keyes Peak Uphill Truck Drags on March 13. in Florence, Wisconsin.More than 3,500 people watched as four classes of trucks raced side by side up the intermediate run at Keyes Peak Ski Hill.  It was a double elimination tournament with more than 100 trucks from Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Minnesota competing.

Victory Lane Winners in Sunday Night's Bullring

Quick study Logan Clausen won his second career start on dirt, topping Sunday’s Mach-1 Sport Compact feature at Benton County Speedway. Kaden Reynolds recorded his second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature win of Frostbuster Week at the Benton County Speedway Bullring Sunday evening. Brayton Carter’s last-lap pass netted him the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature win and a $150 bonus during the Sunday Frostbuster special at Benton County Speedway.

After an abbreviated 2020 Iowa Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Iowa Games team is excited to be able to offer opportunities to compete in over 50 sports this summer.Sports and competitions will take place in the Ames community and Iowa State University.

Jeff Larson’s career-first IMCA Modified win at Benton County Speedway $2,000 win Photo;Jim Wittke The third time was a charm Sunday night for Jeff Larson.The Freeport, Ill., driver made the third visit of his IMCA Modified career to the Benton County Speedway and won for the first time at Vinton, taking the $2,000 checkers on Michael & Dowd Night at The Bullring.Larson stayed on the higher groove throughout the 25-lapper after passing pole starter Lucas Lamberies on the second circuit.

Benton County Speedway Opens Sunday with “Frostbuster” Sunday, April 4

The 2021 racing season will get underway at the Benton County Speedway, “Bullring” with the Frostbuster featuring five classes of race cars. The IMCA Modifieds will headline the program with  $2,000 to win the main event. Hot Laps will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the racing action getting underway at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 4th. The kids in attendance will be treated to a special Easter Egg Hunt as part of the Easter Sunday special racing event at the “Bullring” located on the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton, Iowa.

Benton County Frostbuster rescheduled to Sunday, Stuart opens tonight Tuesday

Wednesday’s scheduled IMCA Frostbuster at Benton County Speedway has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 4.Track officials made that announcement after determining they could not get the dirt oval at Vinton race-ready for the number of cars expected to compete on the original date.Along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Mach-1 Sport Compacts will be on the Sunday card.
