Vikings roll past Oelwein, South Tama

VINTON -- Coach Joe Johnson's Vinton-Shellsburg basketball team, picked up a pair of blow-out wins this week.Monday night, the Vikings (6-8 on the year) drilled the Oelwein Huskies, 67-41, then went off to Tama on Tuesday to blast South Tama, 67-46.Monday night the Vikings rode the hot hand of senior sharpshooter Ryan Moore. Moore converted on six of eight three-point attempts to lead the Vikings 18 points.

Stormin' Vikings sink Williamsburg

Huge win last night.  We swam well winning all but one event.  Meet sheet attached.  Great send-off for our seniors.  We moved some guys around to some different events and had some great performances even in events they normally didn’t swim.Isaac Allsup [st] the school/pool record for the odd-distance 160 yard medley relay.

Vikettes roll past South Tama, 70-18

Brylee Bruce drives for two of her game-high 14 points Tuesday night VINTON -- It was a nearly perfect night at Garrison Fieldhouse. Everyone scored and the 12th-rated Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes moved to 13-2 for the season with a 70-18 blowout of South Tama Tuesday night.The outcome was never in doubt. The Vikettes were up 21-4 after one period and pushed the lead to 43-9 at the half, paced by 12 first half points from sophomore Brylee Bruce.

Vinton puts Independence in the gutter

Girls Varsity bowling team takes on Independence winning 2652 pins over Independence 2298 Tonight we competed against Independence at home and were victorious for both girls and boys. I see such great things being done by these teams.  The kids continue to improve and are receptive to change and being the best they can. Below is the information for each team. Our varsity girls team has really been coming on strong. Junior Anna Becker showcased her talent tonight shooting a great 253 game and a 418 series.

No. 15 Vikettes make a statement, stop No. 4 CPU, 36-32

15th rated Vinton comes from under takes out CPU (4th rated) 36-32 VINTON -- "A win like this...well, it just makes the weekend that much more fun!"Those were the words of Vinton-Shellsburg head girls' basketball coach Rich Haisman Friday night after his 15th-rated Vikettes stunned No. 4 Center Point-Urbana, 38-34 in an amazingly incredibly wonderful victory in the friendly confines of the Garrison Fieldhouse. The win was the Vikettes' first over the Stormin' Pointers since the 2010-2011 season and was very likely the biggest V-S girls basketball win in two decades.

Vikettes ready for CPU in tonight's battle of ranked teams

Since the holiday break, Coach Rich Haisman's Vikettes have defeated the Williamsburg Raiders, 66-53 behind Lucy Howes-Vonstein's 23 points, beating Dunkerton 62-14, with Kayla Griffith scoring 16 points and sophomore Alyssa Griffith scoring 14.

By SAGE HOLMES -- For Vinton TodayVINTON -- The Vinton-Shellsburg boys' basketball team, is 4-7 (2-3 in the WaMaC West), and 2-3 since the Christmas holiday.  The Vikings have defeated South Tama County and Benton, but have lost to Independence, Clear Creek Amana, and Williamsburg.  Coach Joe Johnson's Vikings will take on the Stormin' Pointers in Center Point on Jan.

Bryce Radeke for the fall VINTON -- The Vinton-Shellsburg wrestling squad sent it's seniors off in style Thursday night. The Vikings split a WaMaC double dual meet at the Fieldhouse, downing Maquoketa 42-27, but falling to a strong Mount Vernon squad, 40-33.The Vikings won four of eight matches against the Cardinals; Brady Ortner (138), senior Bryce Radeke (145), Curtis Erickson (170) and senior Damon Swenson (126) all recorded falls for the Vikes.

2021 DAN GABLE MR. AND MS. WRESTLER OF THE YEAR OPEN FOR PUBLIC VOTE

 Fareway and BodyArmor present the Dan Gable Mr. and Ms. Wrestler of the Year Awards in coordination with IAwrestle and the Iowa High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IWCOA). The IWCOA accepted nominations from high school coaches for student athletes in each of the three state wrestling classes for the men and combined all classes for the women’s award, regardless of their year in school and weight class.
