FSA Proposes New Microloan for Small Farms
John R. Whitaker, State Executive Director for USDA’s Iowa Farm Service Agency announced that USDA is seeking comments on proposed modifications to its Operating Loans (OL) application, eligibility, and security requirements for new a Microloan (ML) program. These loans will better serve the unique operating needs of small family farm operations.

Nesting season reminder issued to CRP participants
Iowa Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director, John R. Whitaker reminds Conservation Reserve program (CRP) participants that maintenance and management activities on CRP acres must be completed outside of the primary nesting season. Iowa’s primary nesting season begins on May 15, 2012 and continues through August 1, 2012.
CRP participants should refer to their current conservation plans for the maintenance or management practices that are to be completed for 2012.

Dollar General to move to former Roy's location
Some interested readers have asked Vinton Today about the work going on at the former Roy's grocery store location on Highway 218. We have recently learned that the Dollar General Store, currently located on West 4th Street, will move into that building when the renovation is completed.
Dollar General employees say the new building will offer more space, and enable the store to offer a wider variety of products.
