Pizza Hut has officially Closed

Pizza Hut in Vinton has officially closed for business. If you call to order a Pizza from "the Hut," the Vinton location has officially been closed according to the website and a message on the answering machine.The company said that they will be closing several hundred "underperforming stores," however it appears that the stores that have been closed in Iowa are those in small towns.Franchisee NPC International, owners of Pizza Hut,  filed in bankruptcy court and agreed with Pizza Hut to close hundreds of locations.

FAREWAY AND DEAN SNYDER PARTNER TO BUILD STORM SHELTERS

Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America recently partnered with Fareway and Dean Snyder Construction for two storm shelters to be built at Mitigwa Scout Reservation. Each company committed to fully fund the cost of one storm shelter, an approximate value of $40,000. “Our top priority is the safety of our Scouts. As the only Scout summer camp open in Iowa this year we are extremely proud that we hosted nearly one thousand boys and girls and adult leaders for an exciting and safe outdoor experience without any COVID cases,” said Matt Hill, Scout Executive / CEO of Mid-Iowa Council.

Program intro to Help Small Meat and Poultry Processors Grow their Businesses

 Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced the creation of a Meat Processing Expansion and Development Program today. Supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19 have placed significant demands on the state’s small (25 employees or less) meat and poultry processors. Gov. Reynolds has allocated $2 million through CARES Act funding to support these local processors during the recovery effort.

FAREWAY ANNOUNCES SECOND ROUND BONUS FOR HOURLY FRONT LINE EMPLOYEES

Fareway Stores, Inc. today announced a second distribution of the Fareway Family Front Line Plan, which will provide cash bonuses to its hourly employees who have worked on the front lines during these unprecedented times. A cash bonus will be paid to each hourly employee that worked in July or August and is employed as of August 22. The bonuses range up to $500 per employee, with a total investment of several million dollars to approximately 10,200 front line employees.

Kwik Star holds Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

FARMERS REELING FROM STORM DAMAGE TO MEET WITH AG DISASTER-RELIEF EXPERTS

Stripped cornstalks. Collapsed grain bins. Destroyed livestock buildings. East-central Iowa was the hardest hit part of the state by the derecho storm. The disaster left farmers dealing with an estimated 3.57 million acres in damaged corn and 2.5 million acres of soybeans. Now it’s time to offer them help. Iowa State Extension and Outreach is offering just that with an August 24th storm damage meeting in Van Horne, Iowa that will bring together agricultural experts to discuss USDA disaster programs, crop damage, and more.

Patriot Communications continues to connect residents to iVinton

iVinton has received word that installations by Patriot Communications have resumed this week.  Due to the storm last week, there was a delay in connecting more customers. If you have requested service, you will receive a call from Patriot Communications to schedule a time for installation in the near future. The local iVinton office does not schedule these times nor does it have the ability to tell you when exactly that will be.
