 Iowa Pork Producers Association Launch “Pass the Pork” Program to Help Feed Iowan Partnership with Iowa Food Banks, Meat Processors Delivers Pork to Iowans in NeedDES MOINES, Iowa (April 27, 2020) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig today announced a new “Pass the Pork” program to connect Iowa pig farmers with food insecure Iowans.

BENTON COUNTY FARM BUREAU HELPS FEED THE NEED BY DONATING TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES

The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant challenges for many Iowans, including the most basic need of food security. To assist with the spike in demand at local food banks, the Benton County Farm Bureau has made monetary donations totaling over $1,500, to several local Food Pantries that serve the residents of Benton County. Because of these donations, the Iowa Farm Bureau will be donating an additional $500 to the HACAP Food Reservoir that also serves Benton County residents.

Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship Issuing Hemp Licenses & Seed Permits

Applications will be accepted until May 15 for the 2020 growing seasonIowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced today that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has issued its first round of hemp licenses and seed permits for the 2020 growing season. To date, 11 hemp licenses and 38 seed permits specific to hemp have been approved since it became legal to possess hemp in Iowa on April 8, 2020.

Fareway donates $200,000 to support small businesses and their employees

Fareway Stores, Inc. announced a $200,000 donation to the Iowa Chamber of Commerce Executives (ICCE). The donation provides for $1,000-2,000 in gift cards to ICCE chamber of commerce members in the communities Fareway serves.“ICCE’s members have the pulse in their communities on how to best serve their small business members during this time of need,” said Fareway President and CEO Reynolds W.

I need to remind everyone who wants a carryout or a Home Delivered Meal that we need your order no later than 10:00 am on the day that you want it.   Starting today (4/18/2020) any requests for a meal after 10:00 will require staff to double check with the kitchen to insure there are adequate servings for the people who made their reservation before 10:00 am.

Do I need Flood Insurance?

There is a proposal for a new flood map that will affect a lot of people who in the past may not have needed flood insurance. If you are in a flood zone, you are not required to have flood insurance unless you have a mortgage on your home, the BANK can require that you have flood insurance.Flood insurance covers things such as flash flood or run off, water through the walls (not through a drain or sump pump as that is covered under water/sewer backup) and the obvious creek and river overflow.
