Red Cedar Chamber Music will be back at the Andersen Center Point Public Library at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, for a free concert called “Passion & Peril.”Carey Bostian, cello, and Miera Kim, violin, will be joined by Christine Bellomy, Orchestra Iowa principal clarinet. The trio will play a program of both classical and modern pieces.The concert is sponsored by Friends of the Center Point Library, who will also provide coffee and pie afterwards.

Vinton Shellsburg history school teacher Kelly Steffen, will be sharing a presentation concerning World War II History on Thursday, October 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m.She was selected to attend a teaching seminar at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center in Powell, Wyoming. Her presentation will include information about Japanese-American incarceration that took place at Heart Mountain.

On Saturday, September 28, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and painting until 8:00 p.m. all are welcome to help paint a mural on the back of the City Hall building. There are no supplies or experience needed!An additional "Under the Sea" child's mural will be painted for the kids!There will be live music by Phil Thomas and Darryl Hokanson AND the Boogie Woogers.

The annual Idiot Jam will be held on Saturday, September 7 from 7-10:00 p.m. at Farmer's Mercantile in Garrison. Local talent including Todd Frank and many of his musician friends from across the country will be performing. There will be great music and a great time for all to enjoy. A freewill donation will be collected for admission. The Garrison Public Library will be providing concessions for a donation.

Urbana Days was celebrated this past weekend. Residents came out to enjoy the wrap-up on Saturday evening with a free concert on Main Street. The town came out and enjoyed several vendors at the evening concert. Many of you in the area know immediately who I'm talking about when I say, "The Schmidt Brothers." The band held the family-friendly concert with a mix of country, classic rock pop tunes.

ACT I of Benton County will be performing the hit musical Rock of Ages this weekend at the Palace Theatre in Vinton. The musical is built around popular rock hits from the 1980s and features songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, and many more!The story is centered in Hollywood in the late 1980s and follows Drew, an aspiring rock star who longs to take the stage as the next big thing, and Sherrie, a small town girl fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes.
