Reminiscing 25 Years at the Palace

By Marcy HorstThe original managers, Lu Karr and Jan McLeod, were assisted by a handful of projectionists – the first three were Austin Karr, Matt Salger, and Kevin Bookmeier, who were also instrumental in the Palace renovation and re-opening.Matt said, “I remember meticulously hanging the fabric on the walls with Austin. I can't remember the exact number, but 3" staple, fold, 6" staple, and repeat ALL the way around the theatre.

Vinton Shellsburg High School Presents Puffs

The Vinton Shellsburg High School Theatre Department is presenting Puffs, a hilarious play that tells the story of a different group of students during the same 7 years at a certain school of magic we all know. While you may catch glimpses of a certain boy wizard that went to this certain Wizard School and conquered evil, this is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs….

We are hoping to make up for that loss now, celebrating 25 years! Watch this space every week as we rewind the story of the Palace. I’ll also be sharing updates on special anniversary deals and activities at the movies.I attended the first movie at the Palace, “Runaway Bride,” with my family, on grand opening night, November 14, 1999.

The Wildwoods will be in Garrison Sunday, November 10th

The Wildwoods are an enchanting Folk/Americana trio based in Lincoln, Nebraska, comprised of husband and wife team Noah (guitar) and Chole Gose (violin) and Andrew Vaggalis (bass). Their music has been described by Paste Magazine as “focused and charmingly human”. The Wildwoods play some beautiful original music, inspired by nature, love, experiences from the road and growing up in Nebraska.

 Join us on Monday October 21, 2024 at 6:30 pm as Iowa storyteller Darrin Crow brings Gothic horror master Edgar Allan Poe to life in “Morbid Curiosities~an Evening with Edgar Allan Poe. The master of Gothic horror comes from beyond the veil to talk with audiences about hs life and share his best stories and poetry including “The Masque of the Red Death”, “The Raven” and “The Tell Tale Heart”.

Vinton-Shellsburg High School Drama will be presenting, "Puffs."  It is the tale of seven increasingly eventful years at a certain school of magic and magic!Save the date for November 8th through the 10th at the Vinton Shellsburg High School Auditorium.

Passion & Peril (& Pie) Concert at Center Point Library October 18

Red Cedar Chamber Music will be back at the Andersen Center Point Public Library at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, for a free concert called “Passion & Peril.”Carey Bostian, cello, and Miera Kim, violin, will be joined by Christine Bellomy, Orchestra Iowa principal clarinet. The trio will play a program of both classical and modern pieces.The concert is sponsored by Friends of the Center Point Library, who will also provide coffee and pie afterwards.

WWII History Presentation with Kelly Steffen October 10, 6:00 p.m.

Vinton Shellsburg history school teacher Kelly Steffen, will be sharing a presentation concerning World War II History on Thursday, October 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m.She was selected to attend a teaching seminar at the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center in Powell, Wyoming. Her presentation will include information about Japanese-American incarceration that took place at Heart Mountain.

Back Alley Evening of the Arts September 28 4-8 p.m.

On Saturday, September 28, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and painting until 8:00 p.m. all are welcome to help paint a mural on the back of the City Hall building. There are no supplies or experience needed!An additional "Under the Sea" child's mural will be painted for the kids!There will be live music by Phil Thomas and Darryl Hokanson AND the Boogie Woogers.
