The Driscoll Dispatch by Senator Dawn DriscollThis week was the twelfth week of the legislative session. It included the next important legislative deadline of the year. In order to be considered for the rest of the year, policy bills needed to be out of their original chamber and through committee in the second chamber. In other words, we spent time this week looking at policy bills sent to us from the House.

3-16-21 a regular meeting of the Shellsburg City Council was called to order by Mayor Speckner at 6:00pm in Council Chambers and via conference call.  Roll call was answered by Blattler, Thorkildson, Chapman, Reeve’s, and Vogt. Vogt motioned to approve the consent agenda, second by Reeve’s.  All ayes.  Mayor Speckner opened a Public Hearing on the proposed FY2022 Budget.

At the March 23, 2021 Supervisor's Meeting, Melinda Schoettmer, Treasurer discussed office hours for when the courthouse re-opens to walk-in traffic. These hours will go into effect at that time.Motor Vehicle and property customers will be 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Driver’s License will have their normal hours of 8:30 a.

March 25, 2021 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session at 7:00 p.m. at the Vinton-Shellsburg Central Office in Vinton. Supervisor Seeman called the meeting to order with Supervisor’s Seeman, Primmer and Bierschenk present. The Reason for this combined meeting was to communicate about a proposed plan that was brought to the Board for an upgrade to 61st Street, East of Hwy 218.

The weeks are flying by, but April’s spring weather and flowers will be more than welcome after the bone chilling February we had!This last week, we passed 19 bills unanimously, 11 bills with bipartisanship (several of these nearly unanimous), and one that was by party lines.House File 724 passed unanimously and requires employers which offer parental leave for newborn parents to also offer this to parents adopting children up to six years old.
