Area Residents oppose dumping of woodchips on land near Hannen Lake
Members of Benton County Conservation board faced outraged residents this time from southern Benton County. Residents came to oppose the dumping of wood chips on the Fry property near Hannen Lake. In areas near Vinton, residents opposed the same project at the beginning of February. The board had contracted to accept wood chips from damaged trees in Linn County following the Derecho.

The Iowa House continued debating bills this last week, with some of them making big improvements on our rights as United States citizens.House File 744 builds on a campus free speech bill passed several years ago.

This week was the tenth week of the legislative session. The Senate debated several bills to remove barriers to work, reward work and investment, and create a tax and regulatory environment conducive to creating new career opportunities in Iowa. Most of my week was spent speaking with lobbyists and people from my district about the legislation that has been brought forward so far and what they would like to see happen the rest of this session.

Trinity Healthshare Inc. Agrees to Consent Order; Will Cease Operating in Iowa
The Iowa Insurance Division today announced that Trinity Healthshare Inc. (now known as Sharity Ministries, Inc.) has agreed to a consent order that says Trinity will cease operations in Iowa on June 30, 2021, following charges that were filed against Trinity Healthshare Inc. and The Aliera Companies in 2020.“While Trinity has denied the allegations, it has agreed to cease operations in Iowa.
Vinton Municipal Electric Utilities forgives $180,000 due to under billing
At this month's VMEU Board meeting, the utility board voted 4 to 1, with Rich Hainstock voting no to forgive around $180,000 in unpaid electric bills. It was discovered that for several years, at least 8 larger businesses in town were not billed appropriately for electricity. The utility will be doing meter readings on other businesses in town to make sure there isn't an issue with others.
