Hello District 75 from the State Capitol!
The Iowa Legislature returned to debating bills this last week post-funnel week. We passed 67 bills, with 52 by unanimous vote, and the remaining 15 being by overwhelming majority. This shows we are able to agree on many issues.A couple of the bills we passed last week continue to address the issues parents have with finding available day care centers.
The Driscoll Dispatch
This week was the ninth week of the legislative session, and much of our time was focused on floor debate in the Senate chamber. Some exciting news was released this week. Iowa ranked number one in the country for opportunity according to US News & World Report. This rating specifically measures affordability, economic opportunity and equality. Personally, I started out Week 9 with a very busy Monday.

Vinton-Shellsburg gains approval from VMEU to add solar
After a very lengthy discussion at the Vinton Municipal Electric Utility meeting on Tuesday evening, the board voted to approve the school's decision to add solar power. The discussion included much debate about how large the capacity should be on the panels. For the electric workers, it was a matter of safety. If there is any extra electric power surge that flows back into the general system it could cause problems for the utility.
