Double Up Food Bucks adds 100+ grocery locations

Healthy food incentive program received $1M from CARES Act to fund expansion DES MOINES, IOWA (July 6, 2020) – Iowans facing food insecurity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to access free fruits and vegetables at more than 100 grocery stores statewide. This month, 106 Fareway stores, 13 Hy-Vee stores, plus additional food co-ops and farmers markets are joining the Double Up Food Bucks program.

 This coming Saturday will be the 244th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence - the 4th of July holiday.  Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence because of their determined effort to live free and not be under the excessivedetrimental control of British rule.

Zoning Board Recommendation causes Confusion: Zoning Changes Put on Hold

In Thursday night's council meeting, the council was scheduled to have the 3rd and final reading of a zone change in the area of the East end of 6th St. and the SE corner of 10th Ave. in Vinton. Plans were being made to change the zoning in the area to accommodate the new construction of a "shouse" on property owned by Brian Hamling. For those unfamiliar with the term it is a shop contained in the same building as a house.

Update to Golf Cart Ordinance

Police Chief Ted Paxton, requested that the City Council amend an ordinance concerning where golf carts are not allowed inside the Vinton city limits. The ordinance read: A golf cart may be operated on all City streets with the following exceptions:1.                   A street which is a primary road extension (this prohibition shall include Highway 218 and Highway 150) through the City, but shall be allowed to directly cross a City street that is a primary road extension through the City.

IRS Reminds Taxpayers of Upcoming filing Deadline and to watch for fraud

           U.S. Attorney Peter E. Deegan, Jr. and Acting Special Agent in Charge Adam Steiner, IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS CI), St. Louis Field Office, are reminding taxpayers that the tax filing and payment deadline is July 15, and to continue to be on the lookout for scam artists. Deegan and Steiner made the announcement today to urge people who owe taxes, even if they have a filing extension, to carefully review their situation and pay what they can by July 15 to avoid penalties and interest.

Late Fees on Utility Accounts will be due beginning August 1

Citing the COVID-19 pandemic, and the repercussions of the event, the council had suspended all late fees on April 7, 2020 as part of a Civil Emergency Declaration. However, the Vinton City Council voted to reinstate the assessment of late fees and tag fees on past due utility accounts beginning on August 1st citing the fact that the State of Iowa has now let businesses reopen.
