July 20,2020The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.   Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county’s YouTube channel.

Iowa Department of Ag Warns of Seeds from China

Just when you think you can't take any more weird events this year, apparently now we have to watch our mail. Seed packets from China have begun to arrive in mailboxes across the country. No one has given a reason for them or has a clue about why we are receiving them. The Iowa Department of Agriculture has put out a statement to Iowans which says, "We are aware that people in Iowa and other states have received unsolicited packages of seed from China and other countries.

Gov. Extends Proclamation Continuing State Public Health Emergency Declaration

Today, Gov. Reynolds signed a new proclamation continuing the Public Health Disaster Emergency for another 30 days. The proclamation extends public health mitigation measures currently in place for businesses and other establishments. This includes the requirements for bars and restaurants to ensure six feet of physical distance between each group or individual dining or drinking; to ensure all patrons have a seat at a table or bar; and to limit congregating together closer than six feet.

Vinton signs Agreement to purchase IBSSS, New Golf Ordinance in Effect and etc.

Largest Glowing Walking Trail in the CountryIn line with Vinton's motto, "The City of Lights" the council heard plans from Vinton Parks and Rec Director, Matt Boggess for creating what is believed to be the largest glowing walking path in the country. The cost of the glowing aggregate will be half the cost at $22 per pound which should cover a 4 X 4 area.

Secretary of State to again mail out absentee ballot requests

The Secretary of State's office will again be mailing out an absentee ballot request form to all of Iowa's active registered voters. After a recent emergency election directive, they are hoping this will be mailed in late August to allow us more time to process. If you have already mailed one in, you do not need to send in another unless we have notified you of missing required information.
