Schwan to fill City Clerk Position

Melissa Schwan to fill Vinton City Clerk position The Vinton City Council held a work session before the regular council meeting a little more than a week ago. Three city officials have been interviewing candidates for the new City Clerk position. There was a total of 8 applicants for the position, Interviews were held with Chris Ward the City Administrator, Ted Paxton the Vinton Police Chief, and Tom Richtemier General Manager of the Vinton Municipal Electric Utilities all three bringing a different perspective to what is needed in the City Clerk position.

Disaster Recovery Center in Cedar Rapids to Close September 26

Help is still available for derecho survivors A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center will close in Linn County on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.  However, help for survivors of the August derecho is just a phone call, a mouse click or a tap on the FEMA app away. Survivors do not have to visit a DRC to register or submit documents to FEMA.

USDA to Temporarily Provide Free Breakfast and Lunch for All V-S Students

Free Meals Q&A  •      How are students getting free meals?•  The USDA extended a waiver that allows all children to eat for free during the COVID shutdowns that began in March 2020. Food service directors across the state filled out many applications for this program • D o teachers/support staffs get free meals?•  No, our department is a child’s nutrition program so the waiver only covers children’s meals.

Gov. Reynolds Proclaims Sept. 21-25 as Emergency Management Appreciation Week

Recently, Governor Reynolds took action and signed a proclamation recognizing the week of September 21st as Emergency Management Appreciation Week across the state. Reynolds’ proclamation noted the timeliness of pausing and appreciating those who have dedicated their time to help Iowa recover from disasters. In 2020 alone, Iowa has faced the COVID-19 pandemic, a massive derecho storm system, tornadoes, and flooding.
