IMPORTANT: Assistance Directions for Benton County Residents Impacted by Derecho

Now that Benton County has received FEMA Individual Assistance directions on where and how to apply for assistance has changed. Help is available through several venues.Residents should begin the disaster assistance process by applying through FEMA. Residents who sustained damage to their home, furnishings, clothing, or food in the August 10th derecho are encouraged to apply for FEMA individual disaster assistance.

10 more counties will receive FEMA individual assistance-UPDATED INFORMATION

Gov. Kim Reynolds received notification today that 10 additional counties that were impacted by the Aug. 10 derecho have been approved for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Individual Assistance Program.Individuals and business owners in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story, and Tama counties may now apply for the FEMA Individual Assistance Program.

Dysart and LaPorte PD assist in take down of Son of California Drug Kingpin

 Helped his Imprisoned Father Distribute Over 250 Pounds of Meth             A man who assisted a multinational drug trafficking organization was sentenced today to more than five years in federal prison.             Jose Leonardo Alvarez, age 25, from Riverside, California, received the prison term after a March 13, 2020 guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

 August 25, 2020​The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.   Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county’s YouTube channel. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.

Bodeker Assists with storm Cleanup on local farms following Derecho

Bodeker shares experiences as she helps cleanup following the derecho that tore through the area For the past three weeks, Ruby Bodeker has been traveling through the county and helping with clean up from the derecho that ripped through our area. A candidate for Iowa House 75, Bodeker shared a video on her Facebook page, showing the devastation on one of the farms of good friends that she has been assisting with. It's the people like this, that aren't afraid to lend a hand and work alongside Iowans when the unexpected happens.

Schuster assists residents in the aftermath of Derecho

 Iowa State Senate District 38 Candidate Ivy Schuster lends a hand in Belle Plaine following derecho Ivy Schuster, a democratic candidate for Iowa State Senate District 38 which includes Benton, Iowa, and Poweshiek counties, shared with Vinton Today information about her work following the derecho and her assistance with the recovery. Assisting residents in Belle Plaine Ivy helped with meal deliveries and conducted wellness checks on area residents following the storm and coordinated to assist with other needs they may have had following the storm.

Governor signs new proclamation ordering new mitigation efforts

Today, Governor Reynolds signed a new proclamation continuing the Public Health Disaster Emergency.  The proclamation, effective at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020, orders all bars, taverns, wineries, breweries, distilleries, night clubs to close in six counties: Black Hawk, Dallas, Johnson, Linn, Polk, and Story county. They may continue to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption off premises.
