Benton County Board of Supervisor Minutes 9/22/20

 ​ September 22, 2020The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.   Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county’s YouTube channel.

Council Meeting: Vinton Projects, Halloween, Patriot Tour

Melissa Schwan officially sworn in as Vinton City Clerk, 1st day on duty October 5th At the top of the Council's agenda was to swear in Melissa Schwan as Vinton's new City Clerk. With her husband and children in attendance, Mayor Bud Maynard swore Schwan into office. Schwan's first day will be October 5th.Committee ReportsOther business conducted included Committee Reports which included an up-date on the Public Safety Building. There was a meeting last Wednesday with those who will be using the building, law enforcement and Fire Departments as well as the Ambulance.

If you assisted in storm cleanup in Shellsburg, please help document your time

Like many communities in Benton County, Shellsburg was hard hit by the August 10th derecho. There have been many expenses for the city during storm recovery such as the trucking of tree and building debris, generator costs and staff overtime. Shellsburg will be eligible for federal and state disaster assistance, but if we can document contributions of volunteer time, it will increase our funding.

Intrastate Warrants are issued by Law Enforcement Agencies for crimes happening in their jurisdictions.

Man jailed following attack on Belle Plaine Officer

 Belle Plaine Police arrested Lewis Charles Burns, 36, of Belle Plaine on charges of Assault on Peace Officer (aggravated misdemeanor), Interference With Official Acts (serious misdemeanor), and Domestic Abuse Assault (simple misdemeanor).    At about 10:21 PM on 09-23-2020, Belle Plaine Police Officer Austin Wille was investigating a report that Burns had assaulted his adult sister with whom he resides at a residence in Belle Plaine.
