Time is Running Out-Respond to the Census Today
The Census count will end September 30. While the coronavirus pandemic and natural disasters presented significant challenges, there are easy ways to respond and be counted -- online at 2020census.gov, by phone at 844-330-2020, or completing and mailing back the paper questionnaire. Census takers will visit households that have not responded.

Benton County Were you impacted by the storm?
The Department of Human Services (DHS) announces that residents of Benton, Cedar, Marshall, Scott and Tama Counties may be eligible to receive Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Those who were impacted by the derecho and subsequent power outages due to the August 10 storm can apply for benefits in person during their county’s application period listed below.

Disaster Recovery Center in Cedar Rapids to Close September 26
Help is still available for derecho survivors A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center will close in Linn County on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. However, help for survivors of the August derecho is just a phone call, a mouse click or a tap on the FEMA app away. Survivors do not have to visit a DRC to register or submit documents to FEMA.

Free Meals Q&A • How are students getting free meals?• The USDA extended a waiver that allows all children to eat for free during the COVID shutdowns that began in March 2020. Food service directors across the state filled out many applications for this program • D o teachers/support staffs get free meals?• No, our department is a child’s nutrition program so the waiver only covers children’s meals.
