On August 4th, 2020, at approximately 10:16 p.m., Vinton Police were dispatched to 1306 H Avenue in Vinton for a report of a fight in progress. Officers subsequently arrested Donald Arthur Kading, age 42, of Van Horne, for an assault that had injured another adult male. A search of Kading’s vehicle was conducted after a positive indication of the presence of drugs by the Vinton Police Department’s K-9, “Gino”.

Today, Governor Kim Reynolds signed Executive Order 7, restoring the voting rights of thousands of Iowans who have completed their felony sentences.  "Today we take a significant step forward in acknowledging the importance of redemption, second chances and the need to address inequalities in our justice system,” said Gov. Reynolds. “The right to vote is the cornerstone of society and the free republic in which we live.

Tuesday, August 4th, the Vinton City Council met in a special session to appoint an interim City Clerk. (the position is listed on Vinton Today here)Mayor, Bud Maynard stated that there was only one person that was currently qualified for the position and that was the City Administrator Chris Ward. As part of the job, Ward will receive a 15% pay increase until the position is filled which is according to the law.

July 28, 2020The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county’s YouTube channel. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.

City of Vinton is accepting applications for a full time City Clerk-Treasurer. Responsibilities include but are not limited to performing a variety of complex, specialized, and fund accounting, financial, budgetary, and administrative duties which require accuracy, proficiency, confidentiality and limited independent judgment. Experience with municipal administration and good communication skills are desirable.

For months planning, seeking grants, and then accepting bids have all been happening at the county level for a new transportation building. Ground was finally broken a few weeks ago and at the corner of 9th St. and F Ave. in Vinton, or better known as "behind the old West school" for those of us that grew up in Vinton. The Benton County Transportation’s new transit building sits just west of the Benton County Service Center and is scheduled to be completed by December 1st, 2020"We received a PTIG Grant (Public Transit Infrastructure Grant) from the Iowa DOT for 80% of the cost.

Vinton Residents will now be able to report a nuisance to the City of Vinton directly. Before now, residents contacted a council member or the Mayor to voice complaints. Neither the council nor the Mayor is in charge of taking care of these issues. The city introduced a new form that can be filled out online and submitted making it easier for residents to have their complaints heard.
