Vinton County Club received grant toward Golf Simulator
"Get ready for a golf simulator to be added at VCC for the public to enjoy!" said Melody Snow of Vinton Unlimited. The Vinton Country Club received a $3,000 grant to purchase the golf simulator which will be used not only by the public, but will be in use by the high school golf team.The following people were on hand to accept the HOT Grant toward the project: Mark Wilburg, John Mossman, Chad Shmadke, Dave Redlinger, Sarah Meinders and Christine Turner. By: Co-Reporter, Grace Schminke On Saturday, January 8th, 8 members of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter traveled to Ankeny for the IAT conference. In this conference there are three different conferences including the Ignite Conference for Freshmen, Amplify for Sophomores and Juniors, and Transform for Seniors. In each of these conferences, members learn different skills that they can bring back to their chapter. VFW Post #8884 and Auxiliary HOT Grant Recipients
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8884 received a $2,000 grant for storage space in order to open up more room in the Post for events.The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary also accepted a $2,000 grant for kitchen improvements to host public events.Both the VFW Post #8884 and the VFW Auxilary are very active in the community with kids of all ages as well as hosting several events in their location. Grants to support computer science professional development are now available. Iowa school districts, accredited nonpublic schools, Area Education Agencies and collaboratives are encouraged to apply.The grant program, known as the Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund, is intended to help build the capacity of high-quality computer science instruction within Iowa’s schools.
HOT Grants benefit Vinton Residents and Businesses
Vinton Unlimited organizes several events that benefit the town of Vinton. This year their HOT Grants will be used in the following ways. $3,000 toward the Deck the House Christmas Lighting incentive in conjunction with the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department.$3,000 toward printing Vinton Brochures$3,000 toward Boomtown Advertising$3,000 for advertising of the summer downtown concert to be held on June 11. Party in Pink Receives HOT Grant for 10th Annual 5K
Virginia Gay Hospital received a $2,000 HOT Grant toward the 10th Annual Party in Pink Walk/Run 5K Race. This fundraising event for Gifts of Hope is held in conjunction with the Vinton’s annual community celebration, Party in the Park. The 5K walk/run is usually scheduled for Friday evening during the third weekend in June. The event draws participants from several states and is often a great opportunity for family reunions. The American Library Association will recognize Vinton's Public Library Director, Renee Greenlee, at the "I Love my Librarian" award ceremony. The program will take place this Saturday, January 22 beginning at 3:30 p..m. Greenlee will have an opportunity to share a few remarks during the program. In 2017, the voters of Vinton passed a ballot measure to establish a 7% hotel/motel tax within the City limits. The tax went into effect on July 1, 2018. Per the Code of Iowa, funds collected must be spent on recreation, convention, cultural or entertainment facilities. Vinton Unlimited has established the Vinton Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Grant program provides financial support to local organizations for community events, cultural and recreational programming, tourism and various other projects. Wiretap Leads to Vinton Man’s Guilty Plea to Conspiring to Distribute Heroin
A man who conspired to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and other synthetic opioids pled guilty today in federal court in Cedar Rapids. Ryan Rick Schlitter, age 39, from Vinton, Iowa, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin.
