Four Pitbull owners go before Keystone City Council

The Keystone City Council met in a special session to answer the appeal of several dog owners in town. The meeting announced for 6:00 p.m. began at 5:54 p.m. without the owners in the room. The owners were outside talking with their lawyer. Upon being notified they promptly joined the meeting already in session.All of the dogs in question were "identified" first by a city employee as being pit bulls.

Benton Co. Youth Discover Agronomy in Explore Careers “Get the 411 on Agronomy

NRCS, Hawkeye Community College, and Iowa State University guide youth through assessing soil quality. 78 high school students from five Benton County school districts attended the Get the 411 on Agronomy event at New Century FS in Vinton on September 14. Students explored new and improved ways of agriculture while networking with agriculturalists devoted to careers related to agronomy.According to a study commissioned by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers, farming and ag-related industries, including agronomy, accounted for more than 31% of Iowa’s total economic output in 2017, as well as being one of five jobs in the state.

The Class of 1960 Reunites

Class of 1960 Vinton's graduating class of 1960 held their 60th Class Reunion on  Saturday, September 17th at Pizza Ranch in downtown Vinton. The reunion brought 27 classmates together again. Because of the COVID pandemic, the class postponed their reunion for 2 years Roger Rinderknecht said. Benton County adds Century and Heritage Farms

351 Century and Heritage Farm Families Honored at Iowa State Fair. The program celebrates farms in the same family for 100 and 150 years, respectively.Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation President Brent Johnson and Vice President Joe Heinrich honored 351 Iowa farm families with Century or Heritage Farm designations at the Iowa State Fair today.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG MIDDLE SCHOOL RECEIVES NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL AWARD

School Board President Tom Burke presents Middle School Principal Shelly Petersen with a bouquet in congratulations. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School as one of 5 schools in Iowa receiving a National Blue Ribbon Schools award for 2022. The recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Secretary Cardona made the announcement during his Road to Success Back to School bus tour.
