VSHS choir chocolate fund-raiser under way

Easter is almost here!  Get a jumpstart filling those easter baskets and support VSHS choir students at the same time! The choir has started their annual World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser.  Some students are fundraising toward their individual accounts for the Music Department Florida Trip in June, and other students are selling chocolate toward the new choir robes.

Time to 'graduate:' Hurst to retire from VS after 40+ years as custodian

Melvin Hurst is often seen with Pack 47 Scouts at community events, including Relay for Life. “After forty-plus years as an employee of the district and thirteen years as a student of the district I have decided that now would be a good time to “graduate,” says Melvin Hurst, Jr. Hurst is one of several Vinton-Shellsburg employees who have requested and received approval for the early retirement program this year. “I have enjoyed working with the various staff members and students that have walked the halls of the buildings that I have worked at and will miss seeing both on a daily basis,” Hurst wrote in his letter to district administrators.

Berninghaus comes to CPU from the recently-formed North Union district, centered in the smal town of Swea City, in Kossuth County, which borders Minnesota. Iowa Ag Dept. seeks Conservation Farmer of the Year Nominations

 Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today encouraged Iowans to nominate deserving farmers for the 2016 Iowa Conservation Farmer of the Year Award. The award is given out each year to one statewide winner who is making outstanding contributions towards soil conservation and water quality.  The award is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.

2016 Scholarships: Families of VSHS seniors encouraged to apply

State Champs!!!!! Stein wins individual championship; Vikes take team title

Viking bowlers celebrated with their coaches at Berry's Lanes after winning state title in DM. Nick Stein’s previous two-game total in high school bowling competitions was 461 – enough to barely win the championship in Monday’s individual bowling in the Class 1A State meet. But Stein, a Vinton-Shellsburg senior, didn’t bowl a 461 at State. Instead, he improved his own personal best by 52 pins, ending his high school career by rolling a 246/267/513 to take the individual title and lead the Viking bowlers to the team championship.

VSHS choir robe fund-raising continues; nearly half of goal reached

The V-S FACC fund drive for high school choir robes is going well, with $8,735 donated. The goal is $18,214.00. With three weeks to go, we are encouraged that this goal will be met. The V-S FACC wants to thank all the persons and businesses who have given gifts to the fund drive already. All who donate will be recognized at the end of the fund drive.

The NEWW Strikers: Anna Becker, Tess Lillibridge, Sammie Lundvall, and Sophia Kreutner North Eden Willing Workers bowlers won county recognition at the Benton County Bowling Tournament February 7th. Junior member Anna Becker was High Scoring Junior Girl with 260 pins; Jonathon Kreutner hit 287 pins and was the High Scoring Senior Boy. The NEWW Smashers team of Maren Redlinger, Jenna Pattee, Jordon Pattee, and Jonathon Kreutner were the High Scoring Intermediate Team with a total of 740 pins.
