VINTON – Lester Podhajsky, 74, of rural Vinton, died at his home Wednesday, July 18, 2012, following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta as Celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Jill Petersen
Jill Petersen, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday July 17, 2012, at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church by Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht. Ray L. Carman, 65, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following a courageous battle with cancer. URBANA: Ray L. Carman, 65, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following a courageous battle with cancer.

George D. Petersen, 74, of Wallingford, IA and formerly of Mt. Auburn, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following an extended illness.

Randy Garin, 46, died of a sudden illness on Friday, June 29, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall, with Father Brian Dellaert as celebrant. A memorial get-together to celebrate the life and our memories of Audrey Olson will be held July 15th at 1:00 – 4:00 pm at 1415 2nd Ave in Vinton, Iowa. Audrey died on May 2nd, 2012, but will live on in our hearts forever. Shirley Alice Reed, 76, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness. She donated her body to the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.
Shirley was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Urbana, Ill., to James Vernon and Jean (Summers) Gillespie. She was united in marriage to William Reed.

ATKINS: Geneva Howell, 90, of Atkins died June 23, 2012 at her home following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins with Pastor Mike Andrew officiating. Interment will be in the Norway Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will also be held AT THE CHURCH in Atkins from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday and continue one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Jack J. Jeffries

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Memorial visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time.
