Special Library Board meeting held to discuss budget

Last Wednesday night the Vinton Public Library Board called a special meeting before presenting their budget to the City Council. In the previous meeting, the board had worked to put together a budget. A motion had been made to cap the new library director's salary at $80,000 for the upcoming fiscal year. Wednesday night there was the belief that the motion had been to grant this amount in addition to benefits.

Gov. Reynolds Open Letter to Iowans on School Choice

Today, Governor Kim Reynolds released the following open letter to the state of Iowa:  A strong education system is foundational to Iowa’s future, which is why school choice continues to be a priority of mine and of families across our great state.   I believe in Iowa’s public schools. Kevin and I are both products of public education.

 Hi all, We are wrapping up the second week of the 2023 session with sub-committees being the focus.  The observance of the Martin Luther King holiday shortened the time of conducting official business at the Capitol by a day. On another note, I have some information from the Secretary of State’s office about anyone interested in getting just a little bit more involved in our election process for a day or two a year by being a poll worker.

HHS Announces the Launch of New Agency Website

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces the unveiling of the combined health and human services website today. The new website can be found at https://hhs.iowa.gov. This is the latest step in Iowa’s HHS alignment initiative.This new website is the first phase of a two phased effort.“Since the spring of 2022, our team has worked to bring together information from the legacy IDPH and DHS websites into one website.

The 90th General Assembly Starts

On Monday, January 9th, the 90th General Assembly began. It was great to be back in Des Moines serving my new district, Senate District 42, and the people of Iowa. Our week was packed with introductions, committee meetings, and opening remarks from legislative leaders, our Governor, Chief Justice, and Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard.
