Gov. Reynolds signs Students First Act into law

Governor Reynolds signed HF 68 into law today amid hundreds of supporters in the Iowa State Capitol. The Students First Act makes state education funding available for K-12 students who choose to attend private schools.  “Public schools are the foundation of our education system and for most families they will continue to be the option of choice, but they aren’t the only choice,” Governor Reynolds stated.

Governor Kim Reynolds, Stacy McClintock, Senator Charlie McClintock, and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg Governor Reynolds Sworn In On Friday, January 13th I attended the Joint Session to see Governor Kim Reynolds getting sworn in for another term. It was a great end to the speeches and ceremonies of the opening week. One of Governor Reynold's main priorities, school choice, has been progressing and will likely be on the debate floor soon.

Special Library Board meeting held to discuss budget

Last Wednesday night the Vinton Public Library Board called a special meeting before presenting their budget to the City Council. In the previous meeting, the board had worked to put together a budget. A motion had been made to cap the new library director's salary at $80,000 for the upcoming fiscal year. Wednesday night there was the belief that the motion had been to grant this amount in addition to benefits.

Gov. Reynolds Open Letter to Iowans on School Choice

Today, Governor Kim Reynolds released the following open letter to the state of Iowa:  A strong education system is foundational to Iowa’s future, which is why school choice continues to be a priority of mine and of families across our great state.   I believe in Iowa’s public schools. Kevin and I are both products of public education.
