Benton County Supervisor Minutes 8/25/15

August 25, 2015   The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Frese, Hertle and Wiley present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve the minutes of August 18, 2015. All members voting aye thereon. Motion carried. Moved by Hertle, seconded by Wiley, to approve checks numbered 215858 through 216011, payroll numbered 138335 through 138351, and ACH deposits numbered 25029 through 25165, for payment.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus Names Virginia-Class Submarine 'Iowa'

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus hosted a ship-naming ceremony today to announce that SSN 797, a Virginia-class attack submarine, will bear the name USS Iowa. The submarine will be named to honor the history its namesake state has with the Navy. Iowa is home to former Naval Air Station (NAS) Ottumwa, one of a few air training stations created to increase the number of trained pilots in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Benton Soil & Water Conservation Awards presented

Conservation Award (owner-operator): Edwin Wendel The Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners are proud to participate in the Iowa Conservation Program each year. This program recognizes outstanding producers who incorporate various and innovative conserving practices in their farming operations. The Benton SWCD also is happy to select a District winner for the Izaak Walton Windbreak Award Program each year.

August 11, 2015 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Frese, Hertle and Wiley present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Moved by Hertle, seconded by Wiley, to approve the minutes of August 4, 2015. All members voting aye thereon. Motion carried. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve checks numbered 215611 through 215857 (includes handwrites during the period), payroll checks numbered 138302 through 138334, and ACH deposits numbered 24760 through 25028, for payment.

Soil & Water Commission to meet Aug. 25

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners is scheduled for TUESDAY, August 25, 2015. The Commissioners will meet at 2:00 p.m. at the District office in Vinton. Items on the agenda include minutes from previous meetings, financial reports, conservation plans, Federal and State cost share programs, Watershed Project activities, selection of and other general business.
