The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve the minutes of June 30, 2015. All members voting aye thereon. Motion carried. Moved by Hertle, seconded by Wiley, to approve the claim submitted by Tammy Wetjen-Kestersen for Decategorization services provided in June 2015, in the amount of $2,851.

Benton County Republicans Monthly Meeting July 14

The Benton County Republicans will hold their monthly meeting Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Van Horne Community Center, located at 500 1st Ave, Van Horne. The agenda will include fundraiser planning, caucus to convention cycle, precinct leaders, and the upcoming Benton County Fair. Benton County Republicans are invited to attend.

In the Statehouse: School funding questions

After the Governor’s vetoes, the first session of the 86th General Assembly is over and it was a grueling year.  We worked a month over without pay and most of what we did in that month to find a bipartisan compromise, the Governor vetoed.  You can imagine how the Legislature feels about that – believe me, it is not good.   On education, there was a bi-partisan agreement to give a 1.

Rep. Pettengill to serve on state commissions, boards

Rep. Dawn Pettengill (R-Mt. Auburn) has recently been appointed to several state boards and commissions, including:  the Commission on Aging, Investment Board of the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS), and the Statewide Fire and Police Retirement System Board of Trustees.  This is a reappointment to the IPERS Board for Pettengill, as she has served on it since 2008.

Public input sought for Hazard Mitigation Plan; four meetings scheduled

  All residents of Benton County have the opportunity to provide input into the revision of Benton County’s Hazard Mitigation plan at the second meeting regarding revision of the plan. Meetings will be held at the following locations:   Tuesday, July 14 at the Norway City Hall, 108 East Railroad St., Norway Wednesday, July 15, at the Shellsburg City Hall, 108 Main Street, SE, Shellsburg Monday, July 20 at the Blairstown Community Center, 305 Locust St.

Benton County Sheriff's Office to participate in sTEP

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the July 1st – July 7th 2015 sTEP traffic enforcement wave. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2013 for this time period six people died in Iowa crashes with 50% involving an impaired driver. This project is part of a grant from the Governors Traffic Safety Bureau.
