Private family graveside services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.Linda was born on August 18, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John Herman and Darlene (Wiese) Meyer and graduated from Benton Community High School.

Mildred Armstrong Kalish, 101, Author of Little Heathens Mildred (Millie) Armstrong Kalish, the author of Little Heathens, passed away on May 24th, 2023, two months after her 101st birthday. Born on St Patrick’s Day in 1922 in Garrison, IA, Millie was raised on a small family farm during the Great Depression. Her childhood experiences laid the foundation for her deep connection to the land and fostered a profound appreciation for self-sufficiency and community.
Steve Schallau, age 79, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 5, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Van Horne, with Rev. Woodlands Creek Community in Clive was Patricia’s home for the past twelve years, where she made many friends. Gaffney, 88, of Independence, IA, formerly of Vinton, IA went home to be with her Lord on May 29, 2023.Leila was born on May 26, 1935, in Waterloo, IA the daughter of Vincen and Opal (Bender) Hoskins. She was united in marriage to P. LaVern Gaffney on January 19, 1958, at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Independence, IA. From this union were four children; Phillip Eugene, Cynthia, Brenda, and Elvira “Shelley.

Bonnitta (Bonnie) J. Johnston, 79, passed away on February 16, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 Saturday, June 3rd, at Phillips Funeral Home (212 E 6th St –Vinton) followed by an internment service at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Bonnie was born December 16, 1943, in Vinton, where she lived during her childhood.

Harlan Dean Cronbaugh, 83, of Cedar Rapids, IA (formerly of Belle Plaine, IA) passed away May 25, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.Harlan was born June 27, 1939 to Harley and Edith (Slaymaker) Cronbaugh in Belle Plaine. Growing up on the family farm, he attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Following school, he worked at Amana Refrigeration before his career as a Petroleum Department Manager at Farmer’s 4-County Co-op.
